As Hurricane Ike bears down on the Texas coast mandatory evacuations have begun and people are preparing for the worst. In this terrible time there are some things that you can do to insure that you will be compensated for the damages that may be incurred to your property and belongings as result of Hurricane Ike. Sometimes it can be a long and difficult process to recover compensation for damages that have been incurred, especially when it comes to items that are perishable or are thrown out shortly after the storm. Usually insurance adjusters do not arrive on scene until these items have been hauled away; therefore it may be difficult for you to prove that these items existed and therefore be compensated for their value.

The best way to ensure that you get reimbursed for your losses is to document everything with photographs. This will provide you with evidence of your belongings and the condition of those belongings to hand over to your insurance company when filing your claim. This simple step can save you countless hours and headaches down the road if your property does suffer damages from Ike.

As with all disasters your fist concern should be the safety and well being of you and your family. The National Weather Service is now predicting Ike’s land fall late Friday night or early Saturday morning, and is expecting Ike to be a powerful Category 3 Hurricane by the time it makes landfall.

Hurricane Warnings have been issued for almost the entire Texas and Louisiana coastline and mandatory evacuations have been issued for at least eight coastal counties in southeast Texas. These warnings should be obeyed for the safety of you and your family.
