The Kugel Mesh Patch has been recalled due to serious side effects such as:

  • Breakage of the coil ring
  • Abdominal pain
  • Bowel perforation
  • Chronic enteric fistulas
  • Unnatural connections/tissue growth in between the bowels/intestine and other organs as well as migration of the recoil ring

Davol, the manufacturer of the mesh, blames the doctors for the malfunction of the rings, however, it was just the ring itself. The failures always occurred where the ring was supposed to be welded together. Davol then issued 2 more hernia patch recalls after reports had linked the hernia patch to several fatalities and more than 80 injuries and other problems.
