Kolcraft has issued a voluntary recall of some 425,000 infant play yards in response to a strangulation death of an infant. The restraint strap for the changing table forms a loop and hangs down into the play yard area can strangle a child. The Consumer Products Safety Commission has receive one report of a 10-month old that was strangled by the strap.

Twelve different models are covered under the recall. One model in particular, the Contours 3-in-1Play Yard, has an additional defect that can cause a child to suffocate by being trapped against the wall when using the rocking cradle attachment. Kolcraft has received 45 reports of children rolling to the side of the rocking cradle attachment.

The recalled play yards were sold at various retailers from January of 2001 to September of 2007 for $50 to $130. The CPSC urges parents to discontinue use of the changing table and cradle and contact the company for more information and free replacement parts to remedy the dangers of the play yards.
