Six Year Old Girl Hit After Exiting School Bus

Yesterday in northwest Harris County a six year old girl was struck by a car shortly after exiting a school bus. According to the Click2houston.com story the six-year-old was struck when a driver lost control of the vehicle, striking a mailbox and then striking the child.

Officials said the girl received cuts and scrapes, and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Thankfully the girl suffered minor injuries and will likley make a full recovery.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.

Suspected Driver Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident

Police have charged 20-year-old Rafael Romo Navarro with intoxication manslaughter following a hit-and-run accident in north Houston late Saturday night. According to the Chronicle story here, Navarro was travelling on Interstate 45 around 1 a.m. Sunday morning when he allegedly rear ended a disabled Toyota Camry that was parked on the left shoulder, killing the driver instantly.

Navarro allegedly fled the scene of the accident on foot and was found less than half an hour later hiding under a vehicle at a nearby car dealership.

Navarro is currently in jail and has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid.

The victim’s name has not been released because some family members have not yet been notified.

One Dead in Pasadena Collision

One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a 3 car accident in Pasadena on Wednesday night.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Bay Area Boulevard and Red Bluff at about 8:15 last night when a Honda civic was broadsided by a pickup truck traveling at high speed. According to authorities the pickup truck had the green light.

The 18 year-old female seated in the passenger seat of the civic was killed in the accident. The driver and backseat passenger were taken by ambulance to the hospital. The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries.

Condition of Man Hit by Dump Truck Upgraded

On Monday afternoon at the intersection Old Spanish Trail and Almeda, 50 year-old wheelchair bound Arthur Williams was struck by a dump truck. Eye witness accounts claim that Williams was dragged about 10 feet into the intersection after the initial impact.

The accident landed Williams in critical condition at Ben Taub General Hospital. Fortunately today his condition was upgraded to good and he is making progress toward a recovery.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

Bicyclist Injured in Houston Fire Truck Accident Passes Away

After two weeks of fighting for her life, bicyclist Leigh Boone passed away on Saturday from injuries incurred when she was caught in an accident involving two Houston Fire Department ladder trucks.

Boone had been in critical condition at Memorial Herman Hospital since March 30 when a HFD ladder truck toppled over and crushed her near the intersection of Westheimer and Dunlavy.

Authorities have found the ladder truck driver to be at fault for the accident which took Boone’s life and injured 10 others. The driver of truck ran a red light and broadsided a HFD pumper truck that was responding to the same call.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to both the family and friends of both the victim and the HFD ladder drive truck driver, who I am certain has also been greatly affected by these events.

Woman Killed in Dallas Cement Truck Accident

Last Friday a 41-year-old woman was killed, and 5-year-old child was injured when a cement truck flipped over into their SUV. Maria Angelica Gamez was killed instantly, while the child in her vehicle was rushed to the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas in critical condition. The diver of the truck, 31-year-old Edward Magallon, was traveling south on Texas highway 183 near I-35 when he allegedly swerved to avoid another vehicle causing the truck to strike and vault the center barrier rolling over into the north bound lanes of the highway.

After entering the north bound lanes of 183 the truck struck a motorcycle and landed on top of the SUV. Both the driver and of the truck and the motor cycle were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The 5-year-old child and the truck driver were released from the hospital on Saturday.
